October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month. During October, Rett Syndrome Angels will be involved in programs not only to raise awareness of Rett syndrome but will also continue to be involved in fundraising that benefits Rett research and supports families living with Rett syndrome. As the month draws to a close, Rett Syndrome Angels will hold its Fifteenth Annual Blue Sky Day.
You are invited to attend this special Blue Sky Day event on Saturday, October 25th. This program will honor and celebrate our children and adults with Rett Syndrome. The name of each participant will be read and each family will have the opportunity to share highlights about their child. Cheers will rise as each Rett Angel ascends the steps on the Quad of Harvard Medical School on Longwood Ave., Boston. Some will be able to walk with the help of their families and some will be carried up the steps. Going up the steps is symbolic of moving forward and upward towards blue, sunny skies in spite of the difficulties faced by each child and family due to Rett syndrome. Rett syndrome researchers from the Boston area, staff members from the Rett Syndrome Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, members of Acadia Pharmaceuticals, along with cheerleaders, a music therapist, clowns and assistants to help with the stair climb will participate in the day’s activities. Following the outdoor program families and supporters will gather together across the street at the Life Sciences Building for lunch and time to mingle, take selfie pictures and have FUN!
