Team Rett Runner Profile: Abigail McLean
How Abigail joined Team Rett
I am so excited to be running my first marathon, the 2021 Boston Marathon as a member of Team Rett. Although my 2020 training was abruptly cut short, I am honored to have a second chance to run on behalf of an organization as amazing and special as the Rett Syndrome Angels. This is a challenge I have dreamt of taking on, and I can’t express my excitement and gratitude enough.
What inspired Abigail to run?
I first learned about Rett syndrome when I met my best friend Brooke: Brooke’s sister Caroline has Rett Syndrome. Despite the challenges Rett presents, Caroline’s glowing energy and gorgeous smile continue to inspire everyone she meets, and this will motivate me through my training. My mom Ali has also run as part of Team Rett in the 2016 and 2018 Boston Marathons, so I hope to follow in her steps (figuratively and literally!)
What is Abigail’s goal?
Running the Boston Marathon is something I have always wanted to do, and I am so humbled to run in support of Rett Syndrome. I hope that we can continue to raise money in addition to what I raised in my 2020 fundraising page and reach over $10,000 by October 11th, 2021…but I need your help!!!! On behalf of Team Rett and the Rett Angels, ANY donation is appreciated—money, kind words, hugs — I thank you already!
