Team Rett Runner Profile: Nita Rossow
How Nita joined Team Rett
My friend, Maggie knowing I like to run, asked if I ever thought of running a marathon? She suggested Team Rett! As a Special Education teacher, I value the importance of an organization that is not only dedicated to research but also empowers and supports families. Additionally, Maggie has shared personal experiences with me about the joys and challenges of raising a child diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. I want to run because October is Rett Syndrome Awareness month and what better way to honor those impacted than to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon. I am so appreciative of this opportunity to bring more awareness to Rett syndrome.
What inspired Nita to run?
I’ve always called myself a “weekend runner”. I enjoy the physical activity and participating in charity races, but never considered approaching the sport more seriously. The events of the last year, combined with a milestone birthday, have definitely prompted a shift in my thinking: If not today, when?
What is Nita’s goal?
I’ve walked down Boylston Street many times on race weekend, stopping to take a picture at the finish line. This will be my first marathon so my goal is simple, run across that line on race day. I look forward to achieving this personal aspiration and am excited to know I am also working to accomplish a greater goal.
